For the GranBio “Bioflex1” project in Brazil, Biochemtex is the engineering firm assigned to supply the basic engineering, key equipment and technical assistance during commissioning and start-up.
A 100% Brazilian company controlled by Gran Investimentos SA, a holding company owned by the Gradin family, GranBio is an industrial biotech company, founded with the vision to bring about a green revolution able to transform the real potential of Brazilian biomass into a wealth of energy. Founded in June 2011, the company was the first to announce its intention to build a second-generation ethanol commercial plant in the southern hemisphere of the world.
The plant, which will enter into operation in 2014 is located in the State of Alagoas and will produce 82 million litres of biofuel per year using the PROESA™ technology of Beta Renewables.
This will make it one of the largest operative centres in the world. GranBio - selected by Fast Company as one of the 10 most innovative companies in South America - is investing 350 million Real (approx. 115 million Euro) in this project. This cellulosic ethanol plant will be the first of multiple installations that GranBio is planning to build using the PROESA™ technology platform.
In January 2013 BNDESPAR the investment arm of BNDES, has become a minority shareholder of GranBio, holding 15% of its overall capital.
